Pennies From Heaven
Pennies from heaven was an old song from way back in the day by Johnny Burke and Arthur Johnston. It was written in 1936 with Johnny Burke writing the words and Arthur Johnston writing the music. Pennies from heaven was then made famous by Bing Crosby in 1936 because everything he sang became popular back then. They all just loved bing. Actually bing sung the song in a movie. Guess what the name of the movie was. Pennies from heaven! You have to admit the name is pretty. There is something very nice about the sound of the words pennies from heaven. I don’t know what it is. The reason I even knew about this song was because I had a recording of led zeppelin live where jimmy page was playing this melody as he improvised on a long jam guitar solo. I heard that melody and looked up a review on that show and found out it was pennies from heaven. I fell in love with that title ever since. Billie Holiday also recorded this tune and she’s another old favorite. I’ve mentioned her before in my Diana ross post. So hat’s off to Pennies from heaven just for sounding beautiful.
